Independent Bank-Austin
LOCATION:
Austin, Texas
DESCRIPTION:
Jim Wilson Architects is currently working through the Design Development phase for an approximately 15,500 square foot office / bank building located in Austin, Texas. The building will house the southern corporate offices for a private bank, a mortgage company, tenant lease space, and a branch bank with two drive-through lanes on the ground level. The three-story structure will also include two levels of underground parking. Careful consideration is being given to the building and landscape design with the anticipation of achieving a Silver LEED Certification. Working in collaboration with local Austin artist Lance Letscher and Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, the design is energized by the dialogue between the architects and artist. A direct correlation between the three disciplines is not necessarily anticipated; however, we are fascinated by the results of the “conversation” between them. The site, a very small east-west oriented rectangle, has created many challenges and opportunities, and almost every single inch is being utilized in the design solution. In an effort to create a building expressing its presence and stability, yet maintain the unique “casualness” of Austin, the north half of the building will be clad in local Texas limestone while the back half will be sheathed in metal. As a bridge between the commercial intensity to the east and the slower-paced, more residential area to the west, we hope this project will set the tone for stitching the two together.
